Moonlight Shadow II by cazcastalla Moonlight Shadow II by cazcastalla
Entry for the Dark of Night challenge at :iconmanipulatethis:
Level 2

:bulletred:I have made some changes to the original following helpful and constructive advice in the comments:bulletred:

Nobody knew where they came from, where they went to... even if they went anywhere.
Every day the two elderly men sat on the bench, they never seemed to eat.. no-one saw them arrive each morning and no-one saw them leave each night... but plenty saw them throughout the day.
They were talked about, theories abounded... but no-one seemed to know anything for a fact.
One day they both died sitting on the bench - there was no funeral... no family came forward - so there they stayed.
People stopped passing by that way.
Cats stopped prowling there at night.
Owls kept away.
Eventually all living things dared not go near or by - so now it is the sacred grave of the two elderly gentlemen who seemed to know no-one and who nobody knew.

I made this into a huge challenge for myself as it is all about lighting and shadows... just hope I got it somewhere close to right!

Thank you... it's all a great learning curve for me - this was a challenge due to the lighting issues - little by little ;)

Thanks for using my stock. Here is a link to my rules. Basic - Credit and Comment. It would have been nice to know that you used my stock. I shouldn't have to find out second hand through a journal. I am hoping that you at least let all these other kind stockers know that you used their stock.

I am sorry - I am pretty new to putting my art on here using dA stock - I simply forget to do it... if I feature anything anywhere I always leave a comment ... not everyone requires anything more than links back to the stock (me for instance). But I have now left a comment on all the other stock images I have used for this and my other entry to this challenge - thanks for bringing it to my attention, and once again, sorry to have upset you.

Wasn't upset, just a friendly reminder. I know it is a basic requirement for just about every stocker here on dA and some are much more strict with their rules. Good luck with the contest and remember to always let someone know when you have used there stock, we love seeing what others have made with it.

I like everything here . The concept , the well blended bones , the story , colors and textures .... but it seems the with the direction of the light rays , and the height of the gargoil , that it's shadow should be foward and possible even shadow that bench a bit. Nice work my friend !!!
:iconfearmeplz: Good luck in the challenge !

Oh... I worked so hard on the lighting and shadows on this one... the natural light actually casts the shadows backwards, so I slightly changed the direction of the 'moonbeam' to cast them to the side. Thanks for your comments

I have made some changes to the original of this image... I have added some light glows around the statues, changed the direction of the bench shadow and blended the bottom of the statues more, and darkened the front of the monument where I had put some light - hope it looks better :fingerscrossed:

Excellent work! Can't find anything to criticize that hasn't already been said. Just pay attention to the light sources. You have a great eye for drama. Good luck in the challenge. :)

Very nice work! Love the backstory!

The bones, bench and lighting on them look great! I would like to mention that the shadow on teh bench is going the wrong direction though.

Otherwise I have one suggestion: The monument behind the bench seems a little out of place because of its contrast and colour. Try adjusting the colour to add more yellow to the base. Also, try to add some highlights around the top-left edges to represent moonlight hitting the statue.

Anyways, nice work!

It's quite a frightening place! The cold atmosphere is well rendered, reinforced by the texture. You've integrated nice stocks. The composition is interesting, with a diagonal that gives a good dynamic to the artwork. I like the way you lead the watcher to the skulls.

I think that additional work may improve the integration of the big tomb on the left. But more experimented artists may have a better advice for this aspect, and I might be wrong.

Thank you... I agree with you about the blending at the base of the tomb-thingy - I don't think I paid enough attention to that detail.
