This is my entry for the Staircase Incident challenge at
This is a true story: Many years ago I was working as a chambermaid in a Scottish country house hotel. We had to wear the old Victorian-style uniforms - which were extremely uncomfortable and didn't 'move with you' - so you started out the day looking quite smart, but finished up with everything where it shouldn't be! We had it drummed into us that no matter how far up/down the stairs you were, if a guest was going the other way you had to go back to allow them to continue - NEVER, EVER pass on the stairs. On this particular day I was going up the stairs and a guest was coming down - I was more than half way up, but turned around and went back down to allow the guest to continue - she wished me 'good morning' as I turned. I got to the bottom, turned around to see there was no-one there. Now.... do I believe in ghosts? Well... I am still undecided. I have to question - Was I over-tired? Definitely, I was working 14 hours a day, 6 days a week - of course I was over-tired! Was my imagination running away with me? Possibly - although it was not a shadow of a person I saw... it looked like a real person - although not dressed as most guests and I have to say that didn't occur to me until later... so maybe it was my imagination and maybe not - I will never know!

Everything in this picture fits perfectly! Even the green energy swirls.
The only thing that looks out of place is a wall-section on the right side/ t looks like there should be a floor-section there but there isn't. Besides that this looks amazing!
So it is! If I had to guess I'd say its a slanted brick. It just draws a lot of attention. Things that are hard to figure out tend to draw more attention than things that are simple and well-exposed - that's why removing image imperfections makes things easier to look at. Human psycology does weird things...
Oh... I think it's a step looking at it again - maybe there's a doorway or just a little inset part in there - it's a bit of a strange construction in that part, or maybe the camera angle just makes it look strange - it's a mystery... and I love a good mystery
It was certainly a weird experience and stayed on my mind for many months - strangely the inspiration of that incident didn't occur to me immediately I saw this challenge
